Congratulations to Jackie Oster (MFA 99)! She won a Golden Reel Award for best Dialogue/ADR Editing (short form), for House, MD's episode, "Autopsy", beating out Lost, Alias and ER! She attended the awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton and had a fabulous evening!

I hear there's a pretty funny little DVD, The McPassion, which can be seen at www.TheMcPassion.com. The DVD was created by Film School alums Ben Hershleder and Rik Swartzwelder (both MFA 95). Its causing lots of debate/discussion . . .and laughs, and the site is getting thousands of visitors a day! Be sure to read the Press Release.

Wendy Mericle Koehler (MFA 99) and Jeffrey Koehler (MFA 98) - Sam Mericle Koehler ? born October 10, 2005 at 5:25 PM, weighing in at 7 lbs. and l0-.5 oz. He?s now almost 5 months old and cute as can be!

And another baby! Congratulations to Rose Hlaing and Joe Faissil ? they had little Joe on February 17 at 6:10am--he weighed in at 6lbs 4oz! He?s a cute little guy! Rose taught at the Film School a few years ago.

BFA Director Frank P. Tomasulo ("Dr. T") chaired a workshop on Faculty Governance and Academic Service at the annual Society for Cinema and Media Studies conference in Vancouver, Canada. He also delivered a paper called "Assessing Student Learning Outcomes in Film Production: The FSU Film School Model." Dr. T serves as Advisory Editor to the organization's publication, CINEMA JOURNAL.

FSU Screenings & Awards Update March 9, 2006

SIRAH (MFA 2005 - Cristine Spindler & Crew) has been invited to screen at the 5th Tribeca Film Festival which will be held in New York City, April 25th - May 7th, 2006. The Tribeca Film Festival was founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Martin Scorsese with the mission to contribute to the revitalization of lower Manhattan in the wake of September 11. THE RESURRECTIONIST (MFA 2005 - Susan Bell & Crew) has been invited to screen at the 22nd edition of the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival, which will run from April 19 to 25, 2006 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The film was recommended through it's screening last October at Screamest L.A.

MEMORY COLLECTOR (MFA D-3 12/2004 - Soo Jin Hwang & Crew) and TONI & THE GREAT PADDLE CAPER have been accepted for screening by the Pacific Film Archive at Berkeley, CA in the Women of Color Festival in March 2-5, 2006 and the festival will close on Saturday, March 11th at the Yerba Buena Gardens theater in San Francisco through Cinematheque. MEMORY COLLECTOR will screen on Saturday, March 11 in San Francisco. TONI & THE GREAT PADDLE CAPER was invited through another festival's participation and that screening date will be forthcoming. TONI AND THE GREAT PADDLE CAPER (MFA D2- 2004 Kyley T. Robinson & Crew) has been chosen to screen in the 8th Annual BAMKids Film Festival which will take place March 4-5, 2006 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York and will feature some of the finest children's films and videos available internationally. The 2005 BAM International Children's Film Festival welcomed more than four thousand children who participated in voting for the Bammies, the Festival's top honors. THE PROBLEM WITH FIBER OPTICS (MFA 2005 - Producer-Shannon Gregory/Director-Greg Jardin & Crew) and TYCHO'S NOVA (MFA 2005 - Producers -Tiffany Moore and Max Valverde-Soto/Director-Soo Jin Hwang) have both earned top awards in the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences College Awards. THE PROBLEM WITH FIBER OPTICS has won First Place Comedy, and TYCHO'S NOVA has the won the Best Music Film Award. Only one award is given in the Music Category. MY GOLDEN CAGE (BFA Doc 2004/2005 Cristina Paez and Wilson Tang) and OF MY GOD (BFA Thesis 2005 Demetrius Wren and Wilson Tang & Crew) will be screening at the Garden State Film Festival on March 30 - April 2,2006, in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Also THE SEASON, a semi-professional documentary about hurricane relief by grassroots organizations will screen there.
