From Noralil Fores (BFA 030 ‘"As I've been seeing the Warren Reports coming in the last feweeks, I've noticed several Sundance Film Festival connections. For any of you heading out to Park City this year with a film, or connected to a film, please feel free to contact me at nrfores@shortendmagazine.com. I'll be out there myself with the ShortEnd Magazine and will make every effort to attend the screenings of your films and help in some way to generate press."
Our sympathy goes out to Patrick Alexander (MFA 06 who wrote and directed “Rundown”. His 26 year old brother, John, died suddenly in China where he was working on a series of documentaries with Ted Koppel. For more information, go to http://www.abcnews.go.com/Nightline/story?id=3997510&page=1
or
http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/koppel/bios/alexander.html” And an update from Patrick: “John's funeral is set. Although we still cannot anticipate when John's body will be released from the Chinese authorities, we as a family have decided to proceed with arrangements. The ceremony will take place in Cincinnati, OH on January 5, 2008 at 11:00 AM. The location will be Our Lord Christ the King in Mt. Lookout. The address is 3223 Linwood Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45226. The church is connected to Cardinal Pacelli School, John's childhood stomping ground and a place of everlasting memories for our family. A reception will immediately follow at Jaspers in Mt. Lookout Square, which is walking distance from the church. This venue will allow people to go up on stage and share memories about John. There will also be food, drinks, pictures, music, and a video tribute. We have solidified plans for John's memorial in Washington, DC. The ceremony will take place on January 12, 2008 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at Discovery Headquarters. The address is One Discovery Place, Silver Spring, MD 20910.”
From William Lu (MFA 02) “I'm pleased to announce that the short that I spent the last year working on ("ATF: Asian Task Force"), will premier in high-definition at the Beverly Hills Hi-Def Festival on January 3rd at 6:30pm at the Beverly Hills Fine Arts Theater. I had some great FSU alums on the crew who donated their valuable time and worked incredibly hard on the short: Morgan Hanner did the production design, Derek Bell was the sound designer, Justin Barber helped with the CG effects and Brett Jacobsen was part of the very talented cast. I'm incredibly proud of how it all came together and hope FSU'ers can make it out to the screening! Best of all admission to the festival is free! The Fine Arts Theatre is located at 8556 Wilshire Blvd. Beverly Hills, CA 90211. The website for more details is http://www.studioscreenings.com”
From Cat Bigham (Will’s wife) “Will has an office in Dreamworks. It is really nice with a beautiful view of a fountain out his window. The way his contract works is that it sets him up as a little production company working under the Dreamworks umbrella. He named his company Shamrock Motion Pictures, and he hired a creative executive, Justin Sheehy, to be a part of his team. Justin is a great guy and together they are searching for the next project Will would like to do. He's looking for something with a heightened sense of reality and a little bit of fantasy, sort of like an early Tim Burton film. However, as you have probably heard, there is a writers' strike going on. So things have been a little slow as he must abide by all of the strike rules. But this is working to his advantage as it is giving him a chance to make connections with other production companies, producers, directors, etc in town who have the down time with the strike to meet with him. We are hoping that the strike will be over very soon, however, as he would really like to get down to business! We feel extremely blessed that with his new job we were able to purchase a home, which we never thought would be possible here in L.A.! But we got a great deal on a home in Sun Valley.”
From Paul Cohen “Below please find an email from a friend of mine, Bob Giovanelli, known as festival Bob. Festival Bob attends most of the major film festival supervising the theater management including theaters at Sundance, Hamptons, Stony Brook and many others. When you attend these festivals it is usually Bob making sure all is well at the theater. He is a good man for our alumni to know when the going gets tough at these festivals. Last year Bob directed his first short film entitled "TIS THE SEASON" which has received a great deal of festival praise and he is now in the process of promoting it. He has asked that we watch his film and then vote to support it. I believe it is worth supporting and am asking you to reach out to your alumni and to please suggest that they watch this short film and vote. Someday, hopefully, they will attend one of the major film festivals and meet Bob and let him know that they enjoyed his film. “”As never before have I not only had a short film made....but it's in a prestigious online (and on-planes!) contest with 4 other short films. From now until Jan. 15th, both online and on Delta flights with seatback screens...my first little Christmas short film with a twist is available for everyone to see, after being in 6 film festivals and a few special screenings. Here's the link to view 'TIS THE SEASON in the Delta Airlines contest: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1529364bwTeKx7m?c=deltaflyinmovies And the place to vote for it is www.delta.com/flyinmovies <http://www.delta.com/flyinmovies> (where the red stars are) which the Veoh page reminds you of as well. Rating the white stars on Veoh doesn't count for the contest. Be advised that currently on some computers (like mine), the video stops halfway through the 5 minutes on the Delta site if you click to view there, so to be on the safe side, I'm giving you the Veoh link first. It plays fine there on mine and others who have the same prob. And if you like it...help make it viral. Pass on to family and friends...as its a uniquely New York City Christmas short (for Christians AND Jews to enjoy), it's the perfect month to watch it.””

This is a rather sketchy Warren Report, but I just can’t seem to get it together with everything going on! Several of you have sent me material that will be included next week, as well as info about the recipients of the Pathfinder Award, and the Audience Choice Award from the BFA graduation/screening, as well as information about the 2008 MFA thesis films. We are leaving for Orange Beach today to spend New Years with our kids and grandkids!
FROM THE FSU MAILING LIST
From Eric Leong (MFA 06) “My roommate is moving out at the end of January, and I need to fill his room if I am going to stay there. Figured I'd throw this out to the FSU clan before going to Craigslist. The apartment is within walking distance to Sunset Junction. It is a 2 bedroom, one Bath, living room, kitchen, hardwood floors and has one of the nicest backyards you'll see in Los Angeles, perfect for BBQs or just hanging out. Fig tree in back, lemon tree in front.
Landlord lives above and while eccentric, is quick to solve problems. One tenant lives below and is super nice (with an extensive record collection of 60s rock n roll). Rent is 1700 per month, so that comes to 850 each, plus utilities. Water and Direct TV premium package is included. We have one DVR, but the landlord says if you have another TV, he can provide another DVR. The empty bedroom is currently painted an olive green, but you are free to paint it whatever color you like except for black. Landlord is in the process of installing a washer and dryer unit for tenant use in the early winter. No dogs are allowed, but cats are OK. I have some fish, so don't be bringing no killer cats. Email me if interested and would like to see the place: ericjleong@gmail.com”
From Max Clarke (MFA 99) “I'm one of 50 musicians recently invited to re-dub a segment of
"Mago," a spectacular, bizarre, and nudity-laden Korean art movie that tells a mythological story of the creation and fall of the human race. Each of us did just a few minutes of sound for the film, without seeing any of the rest of it; the results will be stitched together to create a surreal new soundtrack. As I mixed music, sound FX, and dialogue, I found myself flashing back to film school -- this is the first full-fledged film sound design project I've done since then!
New Yorkers can catch exclusive screenings of the the film (with the new audio) this week and next at Monkeytown, Brooklyn's unique cinema / restaurant / bar / performance space. Monkeytown is located in Williamsburg, at 58 N. 3rd St. (between Kent & Wythe Avenues) – just a few blocks from the Bedford Avenue L train stop.
Here is the screening schedule:
Wed. Dec. 19 - 10:00 pm - Free
Fri. Dec. 21 - 7:30 pm - $5
Fri. Dec. 28 - 7:30 pm - $5
Sat. Dec. 29 - 7:30 pm - $5
This event was a pick of the week for Flavorpill, Time Out, and the Village Voice, so expect a big turnout for this week's screenings. If you're going, it's a good idea to reserve in advance:
http://www.monkeytownhq.com/reservations.html I plan to attend the Fri. 12/19 screening at 7:30. Hope to see you there!”
