From Michael James Nelson (FSU 2003) "Please check out my newest comedy short, Boom Operator. And don't forget to vote funny!!! http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/b176b0d823 <http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/b176b0d823> "

From Alex Caruthers (MFA 94) “I'm still working at Disney as the Magic Kingdom's Art Director. The closest I get to film is in working with photographers to photo a building and print it full size to cover the scaffolding when we are under rehab. Other than that and some use of lighting and sound knowledge, I work in what was once unfamiliar territories- Interior Design, Concrete, Roofing, Props, Restaurants, Shops and Rides. My office is behind Splash Mtn. so I hear screaming all day long...along with the donkey braying at Big Thunder Mtn., the steam train and riverboat whistles, and the wolf howling at the Haunted Mansion. Fellini would be proud.”

From Natalie Senger (MFA 02) “Still working at Technicolor...recently changed departments and got a promotion - I'm now the Production Manager of our Digital Media department. We're currently expanding our department, and building out our facility, so it's a pretty exciting time to be in this role. We're also looking for digital media operators, if anyone is interested. You can contact me at natalie.senger@thomson.net to send a resume or get more info.”

From Will Lu (MFA 02) “I wanted to share with you that the short I wrote and directed ATF: Asian Task Force, starring Brett Jacobsen (MFA 03) with crew members Derek Lee Bell (MFA 02), Morgan Hanner (BFA03), and Justin Barber (BFA 03) will be playing at this year's San Diego Comic Con, at their Independent Film Festival. We'll be screening on Thursday July 24th, from 1:15pm-2:05pm in Room 26AB. So if any alumni are in town for the Convention, come out and support, we'll be giving out freebies to the attendees! We also are screening the next day on Friday, July 25th at 4pm in Pasadena as part of the Action on Film fest where ATF is nominated for several awards. For more info and venue info check out http://www.aoffest.com <http://www.aoffest.com> .”

Josh Ellis (MFA 03) has just been hired by the Los Angeles Film School as an "industry specialist" teaching cine to new students.

From the FL Governor’s Film Commission Newsletter: “Writing is often called a cathartic exercise, but turning an introspective psychological act into a compelling piece of entertainment is another thing altogether. Somehow, writer/director Joseph Greco has managed to do just this with his award winning feature film debut, Inspired by Greco’s experiences growing up with a mentally ill parent in Canvas. Hollywood, Florida, stars Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden and Emmy winner Joe Pantoliano in an emotionally charged story of a family struggling with the repercussions of mental illness. received wonderful reviews from the critics including Peter Travers of Rolling Stone Magazine
who called “A Triumphant, Beautifully Acted Film,” and Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun Times who said “ is a serious film about mental illness and a sentimental heartwarmer, and succeeds in both ways.” Canvas opened successfully in select cities back in October 2007, and Universal released on DVD this past February. will begin airing on Showtime July 2. Canvas won awards at film festivals across the country and in Italy at the Rome International Film festival where it won the Jury Prize in the family film category. Most recently, Roger Ebert selected for inclusion in the 10 annual Roger Ebert Film Festival in Champaign-Urbana Illinois. was filmed entirely in South Florida. http://www.canvasthefilm.com/ “

Hope everyone has a safe and fun 4th of July. We are at St. Marks with Allison and Michael, Henry 4 and Kate 1, and spent the morning scalloping which was productive and fun. We are finding with the increase in fuel that it costs upwards of $500 every time we go fishing, so have bought a great little deck boat that uses almost no fuel to play in the river with, scallop, etc. And yes, we definitely kept the big boat but are using it a bit more judiciously! We have a bunch of friends coming tomorrow for dinner and fireworks which they set off on the river shore right across from our house!

FROM THE FSU MAILING LIST

From Robert McCaffrey (MFA 99) “I'm cruising for new blood to teach classes in all areas of my Digital Media program at Valencia. The positions are all adjunct, but the recent budget crunch is allowing me to let adjuncts teach more than 12 hours of class. I'm looking for people who understand production and post from both a procedural and technical standpoint. (If you can show someone how to work a video camera, teach lighting principles, convey an understanding of post workflow, know the ins and outs of a non-linear editor and can explain how everything relates back to story...you're my dream come true.) I'm also looking for folks who know principles of motion graphics and in the ins and outs of applications like Apple Motion and LiveType. I'm also looking for folks who know principles of 3D motion graphics and the ins and outs of a program like Maya or Cinema 4D. I'm also looking for folks who can teach writing, including storyboarding, non-linear and interactive narrative structures and the standard elements of linear storytelling and script format. I don't want much.: ) Although you could reply to this email, the best way to reach me quickly is through rmccaffrey@valenciacc.edu. Some of these positions open up as early as this Fall. Thanks...and I hope to see some of you roaming the hallways with me soon!”
